What Is Individual Counseling?

Individual counseling is one-on-one therapy between a client and a licensed therapist. Sessions are structured around what the client wants to address, with treatment methods selected based on what the research says actually works for their specific concerns.

At Nido Waco, individual counseling focuses on three specialty areas: eating disorders, OCD, and anxiety. These are not generalist services. Each of these areas requires specific clinical training, and it matters who you see. A therapist who works primarily with relationship conflict or life transitions is not the same as a therapist trained in ERP for OCD or CBT for eating disorders.

Counseling may be a good fit if you are dealing with an eating disorder (including anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, or ARFID), obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety, health anxiety, or perinatal mood disorders. Sessions are available to teens aged 16 and up and adults.

How Counseling Works at Nido Waco

Erin McGinty Fort, MS, MHA, LPC-S, CEDS-S, is the sole therapist at Nido Waco and brings nearly 20 years of experience working exclusively in eating disorder treatment across inpatient, residential, and outpatient settings. She holds the CEDS-S credential, the highest recognition in the eating disorder field, and is one of a relatively small number of therapists in Texas with this designation. She is also BTTI-trained through the International OCD Foundation, which means her OCD work uses ERP, the gold-standard treatment.

Erin's approach draws on CBT, ERP, IFS, DBT, and Cognitive Processing Therapy depending on what fits the client. She does not use a one-size-fits-all framework. Sessions are practical, direct, and grounded in what the research supports. Prior to opening Nido Waco, she served as the Eating Disorder Specialist at Baylor University's Counseling Center for more than four years.

Anxiety and perinatal mood concerns: Building practical tools for managing generalized anxiety, health anxiety, and perinatal or postpartum mood disorders.

Common Questions

Nido Waco is private pay. Many clients use their out-of-network benefits to offset the cost of sessions. Erin can provide documentation to submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Contact your insurer ahead of time to ask about your out-of-network mental health benefits.

Yes. Nido Waco accepts clients ages 16 and up for eating disorder, OCD, and anxiety treatment.

Erin holds the CEDS-S credential, which requires extensive supervised clinical hours in eating disorder treatment, and is BTTI-trained for OCD through the International OCD Foundation. These are specialized credentials that most therapists do not hold. If you are dealing with an eating disorder or OCD specifically, specialty training matters.

You can book a session and find out. The first appointment is a consultation as much as it is a session. If Nido Waco is not the right fit for your situation, Erin will tell you directly and help point you in a better direction.
